It probably comes as no surprise that there is plenty of opportunity for outdoor recreation near Boynton Beach, Florida. The town does have the word "beach" in its name, afterall. Along with spending the day splashing in the ocean or lying out on the sand, you can enjoy the great outdoors in a number of other ways when living in Boynton Beach. Visit one of the city's many parks, for example, or have some fun at a recreation center.

Life's a Beach

Several parks provide beach access, such as the Boynton Beach Oceanfront Park. Lifeguards are on duty at the beach daily, from 9am until 5pm. There's a flag system in place to let people know when the water is safe for swimming. A green flag means there's a low hazard, while a red flag means there is a high hazard and no one should swim. Amenities at the beach include a cafe, chair and umbrella rentals, showers, and BBQ grills.

Although admission to the beach is free, parking is not. Residents can purchase an annual parking decal for their vehicle for $40. Non-residents can purchase a decal for $90. There are also day passes available. Purchasing an annual decal doesn't guarantee a spot in the beach's parking lot.

Swimming and Boating

Not everyone likes to swim in the ocean water. If you're in that crowd, you might be happy to learn about the John Denson Pool at Wilson Park. A 25-yard length pool, the John Denson pool is heated and open seven days a week. Admission is $2 per day for adults, and $1 per day for children. There is also a 30 visit pass available for $50. The pool has room for lap swimming and offers a discounted rate to adults interested in swimming laps. Water slides are a highlight of the pool, and they are open on Saturday afternoons.

If you own a boat, bring it to Harvey E. Oyer, Jr. Park, which has ramps and docks for boats, as well as 75 parking spaces for trailers. There's a $10 fee for launching a boat on the weekend or on a holiday. You can also purchase an annual decal for $50. Along with being the place for boating in the city, the park also has a number of amenities for enjoying a day by the water, such as grills, picnic tables, and a fishing pier.

Tennis

A number of programs are offered at the city's Tennis Center. If you've been wanting to learn to play tennis, you can sign up for group or private lessons with the tennis center's staff. There are also special programs for teens and kids who want to play. Programs such as cardio tennis are ideal for people looking to get in shape. If you want to better your game and enjoy some friendly competition, you can sign up for the city's tennis league. You can also rent a court for the day to get some practice in or purchase a yearly permit to get access to the courts whenever you'd like.
